Underwater Acoustic Modems

Series

18/34

Fast mid-range communication and positioning - all-around performer with most versatile configuration options for same-depth and depth-to-surface operations

18/34

Introduction

The 18/34 series delivers full-duplex underwater communication and simultaneous positioning with our field-proven S2C acoustic technology. Designed for fast, reliable data links and accurate positioning fixes in reverberant shallow waters, it achieves up to 13.9 kbit/s over 2000 m, ensuring stable performance across a wide range of subsea applications.

Technical Specifications

18/34 models represent a versatile balance of speed, range, directivity, and reliability. Acoustically compatible across all variants, they are available in two beam pattern versions, multiple depth ratings, all of our form factors, and as PRO USBL transceivers for combined communication, navigation, and positioning. The PRO versions optionally support JANUS, enabling interoperability with third-party acoustic devices over NATO ANEP-87 communications standard. From ultra-compact UUV integration to long-term seafloor deployments, the series provides dependable communication and accurate positioning in demanding environments.

Form Factor(s)

PRO

The largest and most powerful modems in the EvoLogics range. PRO models offer the highest transmission power and the widest selection of configuration options and add-ons. The series features our full range of models, including low-frequency, long-range, deep-rated devices for deep-sea deployments.

PRO USBL

PRO USBL transceivers are full-fledged PRO modems with a USBL antenna, enabling simultaneous positioning and advanced data delivery.

MINI

Compact and lightweight without compromising on performance. MINI modems match PRO-series transmission power in a smaller form factor. Ideal for space-constrained setups, TINY series features high- and mid-frequency models and offers key configuration and add-on options.

TINY

Ultra-compact form factor for size- and weight-sensitive applications. TINY series features our high- and mid-frequency models with balanced transmission power and a focused selection of basic configuration and add-on options.

Please note:

Specifications are subject to change without notice. Listed bitrate and operating range values refer to performance in good acoustic conditions and vary with the environment. Operating range and depth ratings depend on the selected product configuration.

We have corrected the operating range listing for this model. The previously stated operating range of 3500 m reflects performance under near-ideal signal propagation and processing conditions. In typical field applications, a realistic average operating range of approximately 2000 m can be expected.

Models

The 18/34 family includes specialized variants with different acoustic coverage and depth ratings. The range is available in PRO, MINI, TINY and PRO USBL configurations with multiple add-on options.

18/34 is the base model with a horizontally omnidirectional, donut-shaped beam pattern optimal for data transfers in shallow waters and between devices operating at similar depths.

The 18/34 deep version is depth-rated to 6000 m - ideal for deep-sea operations that require fast connections between devices at similar depths.

The larger, 18/34 hemi version combines the range and speed of 18/34 with a hemispherical beam pattern and 6000 m depth rating - the wider-area coverage is optimal for connections in slanted and vertical directions, such as from the seafloor to the surface.
